Okay folks.  Let’s not get our hopes up.  We don’t want to count our chickens before they’re hatched…

I mean, let’s just be realistic about the situation, alright?

How often do we hear someone say they’d rather under promise and over deliver so that they can exceed expectations?

God does it Differently

“And He [Jesus] asked his father, ‘How long has this been happening to him [the boy].  ‘From childhood.  It has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him.  But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!’  And Jesus said to him, ‘If you can?  All things are possible to him who believes.’ Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, ‘I do believe; help me with my unbelief.’ ” Mark 9:21 – 24

Lowering Expectation in Prayer

We often pray for “just” this or that and only if it’s “His will” of course for two main reasons.

  1. We Don’t believe God can do it, or will do it
  2. We Don’t believe God wants to be bothered

Who are we Praying for really?

We pray this way to lower our own expectation and not put God on the spot to actually do something…  But this is flat wrong, because this isn’t the way Jesus teaches us to pray.  It’s not the image of type of person God wants following Him…

  1. Who is this God we pray to anyway?  Do we really believe He can’t and/or won’t do what we are asking of Him?Where did He call the halfhearted, timid people to Him?  He wants us committed, all in, and sold on His deity.
  2. Where did He teach us to pray for “just” something only if it’s His will – this effectively minimizes the request for fear we may be bothering Him??Where in scriptures is He so bothered by prayer that He smites the person asking?  Even to Job, He shows the extent of His mercies!

What do we really believe?

God is capable of anything you ask and anything you can imagine.  God isn’t bothered either.

Let’s not forget that He created the universe and calls us by name.

He can answer your prayers and He wants too.

My encouragement to you, and to myself, is to pray boldly.
